Effect of calcium chloride and refrigeration on the quality and organoleptic characteristics of cape gooseberry (Physalis peruviana L.) Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Reyes-Medina,Andrea Johana; Pinzón,Elberth Hernando; Álvarez-Herrera,Javier Giovanni.
Abstract The gooseberry is one of the exotic fruit species most important in Colombia. Calcium has been shown to be important for quality maintenance in fruits and vegetables, as it prevents a number of physiological disorders reinforce the cell walls and stabilize cellular membranes. With the aim to increase the fruit calcium concentration, a completely randomized design with four treatments was performed: a control and three applications of CaCl2 (0.5%, 1% and 2%), with four replicates, for a total of 16 experimental units (EU). The fruit was collected at maturity stage 6 according to the standard Icontec NTC 4580, completely healthy and homogeneous. The fruit was subsequently stored at 21 ± 1 ° C (RH 45%). The application of calcium in the gooseberry...

The aim of this study is to evaluate the kinetics of aerobic decomposition of Saccharum officinarum and Talauma ovata leaves. For each species, decomposition chambers (leaves and water) were set up, which were maintained under controlled conditions. Each sampling day (1, 7, 15, 30, 39, 58, 72 and 90 days), the concentrations of total organic carbon, pH and electrical conductivity (EC) were determined in the dissolved fraction, while the mass and cell wall fractions (CWF) were determined in the particulate fraction. The pH stabilization of the chambers with T. ovata and S. officinarum leaves occurred in alkaline (ca. 8 - 8.5) and close to the neutrality (ca. 7 - 7.5) environment, respectively. The EC values were on average 1.6 times higher in incubations...

Postharvest quality of strawberry (Fragaria χ ananassa (Duchesne ex Weston) Duchesne ex Rozier) genotypes according to vernalization Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Santacruz Oviedo,Victoria Rossmary; Cabral,Moisés; Enciso Garay,Cipriano Ramón; de Jesús Cabrera Arredondo,Graciela Antonia.
Abstract Strawberry production in Paraguay is carried out by small producers, using minimal technology and obtaining low productivity, with the need to expand strawberry genotypes and production techniques. The aim of this study was to evaluate fruit quality of strawberry genotypes according to vernalization. A randomized block design with factorial arrangement 14x2 was performed; factors were genotypes and chilling using 15 plants per treatment and three replicates. Plants were kept in cold room at 5°C, with 8 hours of artificial light and 16 of darkness for a period of 25 days. Five fruits were used per treatment and were evaluated as follows: the amount of total soluble solids, titratable acidity and ratio of total soluble solids to titratable acidity,...

Respiration rate of Golden papaya stored under refrigeration and with different controlled atmospheres Scientia Agricola
Martins,Derliane Ribeiro; Barbosa,Nayara Cantarino; Resende,Eder Dutra de.
Knowledge of the respiration rate during the storage is important in the evaluation of the post-harvest tools that preserve fruit quality, and also for the provision of information for the development of new packages. This work aimed to evaluate the respiration rate of 'Golden' Carica papaya stored under refrigeration and controlled atmosphere conditions. The fruit was kept at 13 °C in controlled atmospheres comprising three levels of O2 (20.8 %, 6 %, 3 %) with a minimum level of CO2 (0.1 %); and three levels of CO2 (0.1 %, 6 %, 12 %) with the lowest level of O2 (3 %). Measurements were taken at intervals of 5 days during the 30 days of storage. The mass loss and the peel color of the fruits were identified at the end of the storage period. The fruit...
